The fourth annual international conference hosted by the Wits Centre for Diversity Studies will engage in troubling the ways in which hate operates in societies globally, interrogate how it is constituted, travels and circulates, its many effects, and how we can prevent, limit and challenge its harm.

The conference hopes to engage in discussions that trouble hate in all aspects of society which include normative social formations;  social movements and institutions; identities; culture and arts; memory and memorialization;  knowledge production; affective economies; bodies; faith, spirituality and religion; law and legislation.

Registration for the conference is open from 11 September 2017 - 1 December 2017.

Conference Fee

The fees for the conference are linked to the World By Income Index compiled annually by the World Bank. Registration fees are allocated per region.

A limited number of waivers of the registration fee and evening event fee are available for students (national and international) as well as staff of the University of Witwatersrand. All attendees are required to register.  A separate fee is payable for the evening event with performance poet Lebo Mashile, to take place on 6 December 2017.
